3 Things You Forgot to Pack in Your Diaper Bag

You have the diapers. You have the wipes. You have the spare outfit. You think you are ready to leave the house. But experienced parents know that the "standard checklist" isn't enough for a real emergency.

Here are the 3 items I learned to carry the hard way.

1. The "Wet Bag."

When your baby has a blowout (and they will) or spits up all over their onesie, where do you put the dirty clothes? If you put them in a plastic grocery bag, the smell leaks. If you put them loose in the bag, everything gets ruined. Get a Cloth "Wet Bag." These are waterproof, zippered pouches (often used for cloth diapers). They seal in moisture and smell completely. You can throw the dirty clothes in, zip it up, and deal with it when you get home.

2. Dog Poop Bags

Yes, really. Sometimes you are at a park or a friend's house where you can't just throw a dirty diaper in the main trash can. Small dog waste bags are perfect for sealing up a diaper before you toss it, containing the smell.

3. A Spare Shirt for YOU

Everyone packs extra clothes for the baby. Almost nobody packs a spare shirt for Mom or Dad. But if the baby spits up on your shoulder or spills milk on your lap, you are the one who has to walk around wet for the rest of the day. Roll up a thin t-shirt and stuff it at the bottom of the bag. You will thank me later.
